The Missing Link

The missing link in most if not all fitness/athletic training programs is Rotational Strength. So, what is rotational strength? It is the ability to generate power in the transverse plane. Simply stated, it is the ability to generate force by the hips from either left to right, right to left. Many sports require rotational strength i.e. tennis, golf, hockey, boxing, lacrosse, baseball etc. Many athletes spend much of their time working on linear strength, or develop power for explosivity but forget rotational strength. If an athlete is to develop balance in his or her fitness program, much attention should be paid to developing strength in the transverse plains as well as the frontal and sagital planes. Developing rotational strength is as simple as adding basic rotation exercises with a medicine ball.
